Recently a new Japanese restaurant called 'Yakimono' has been popping up in my feed. The style of the restaurant reminded me of a futuristic, sci-fi world with hints of traditional Japanese sprinkled through the decor. The colours were neon and vibrant and immediately caught me eye! Located in the heart of Melbourne's fashion and shopping district, Yakimono can be found at 80 Collins Street and surrounded by all the fanciest restaurants the city has to offer!

Just look at those magnificient colours!
And of course, the food was immaculate!
First up was a round of cocktails! Luckily we made it to our booking at 5:50pm, 10 minutes before happy hour! I ordered a 'Hiroo' cocktail for only $11 can you believe it? It was light and fruity, with refreshing ingredients like Honeydew, Nashi Pear, Tequila and Green Tea.
Next up, the food! How could you go to a Japanese restaurant without ordering some Udon noodles and crunchy Tempura Prawn? I know I couldn't! The Udon came with a sweet and fluffy onsen egg and was a delight to the tastebuds! We also ordered some squid and seared Salmon, both were delicious as well!
Although mouth-watering, the portion sizes were a little on the smaller side and were quite pricy. However, I must say as long as you are dining before happy hour, the cocktails make the experience more than worth it!

So the verdict?
Yakimono is definitely a place that will impress! It definitely has that cool, neon Tokyo street-life vibe going for it and will definitely brighten up your instagram feed. With the groovy Japanese pop songs and visual paradise that it is, definitely make Yakimono the next place you take that special someone!
